Cheops virtualises Pentax Europe and ensures complete replication solution

Edegem, 30 April 2009

Pentax is one of the biggest world players in the market for cameras, lenses and medical imaging. With its branch in Zaventem the Pentax European Distribution Center (EDC) is also the central engine that ensures faultless provisioning of the whole of Europe and the Middle East.

Due to the strategic importance of this site, Pentax was looking for a partner who could provide them with a solution for the creation of storage-redundancy, data security and manageability of the systems at the Pentax EDC.

Cheops was able to offer a more than suitable solution to all these questions and also received the complete confidence of Pentax Europe in bringing this delicate assignment to a satisfying conclusion.

Two independent HP EVA-SAN 4000 systems were installed for storage redundancy at two different locations joined by a fibre connection.
By virtualising the entire environment with VMware ESX and FalconStor technology, we were able to offer an answer to the need for security (replication and fail-over) and system manageability.
Pentax is now running an entirely virtual environment and is taking full of advantage of the technical possibilities this can offer, such as High Availability, Dynamic Resource Scheduling, Vmotion, and so on.

The entire project was of course intended to raise efficiency and push down costs. By virtualising the whole environment, Pentax will from now on keep its costs under control, the hardware will be optimally used and daily management has been drastically simplified.
