Bongo enters the world of virtual hosting

Edegem, 23 August 2010

The company famous for its gift vouchers chose Cheops Technology as its partner to increase sustainability, speed and security in its IT processes. A significant drop in costs was also on the wish list. Cheops's answer? Virtual hosting!
The partnership between Bongo and Cheops goes back to 2007. Based on a thorough analysis of the IT infrastructure, a network was built whereby a number of critical applications were hosted in Cheops's data centre. This consists of 5 Citrix servers, 2 servers supporting the ERP application Navision, an Exchange server, an SQL server and virtual servers for a call centre application.
In addition to a hosting project, Bongo also opted for phased virtualisation. To start with, Cheops virtualised the servers supporting the telecom and e-mail applications using VMware VSphere technology. After this implementation, the mail server will be virtualised in the second phase. This project has already been worked out in detail and has been approved. In the final stage, Bongo's Navision server will be virtualised.
Bongo has also opted for a number of Managed Services such as Remote Backup, Remote Monitoring and Managed E-mail Security. The Gold SLA means that Bongo can also count on 24/7 availability of Cheops experts.
The combination of these implementations provides Bongo with the following business advantages:
a) Hosting

  • Working more quickly and efficiently thanks to increased bandwidth
  • Saving space
  • Reduced electricity costs
  • Fixed monthly cost rather than unpredictable investments
  • Flexible and scalable: you only pay for what you actually use
  • Minimal downtime through removal of duplicates and proactive management
  • Secure data and backups
  • Economies of scale: customers can also enjoy the benefit of the considerable investments in hardware, software and staff which Cheops makes in its data centre.

b) Virtualisation

  • No more investments in expensive physical servers
  • Simplified server management
  • Flexible extension of applications
  • High Availability and Business Continuity
  • Flexible allocation of capacity
