Windows 7: what’s in it for you?

Edegem, 22 April 2010

Should your business migrate to Microsoft’s new operating system, Windows 7, or is it better to wait? Hans Demeyer, consultant and speaker at our Boost my Business seminar, provides some food for thought.

Virtualisation means that Windows 7 is a lot more compatible with applications and hardware drivers than previous operating systems,” Mr Demeyer said. “There is no need to rewrite applications as they can continue to run in a virtualised environment. The operating system was developed with lightweight notebooks in mind, and it performs extremely well on them. This means that Windows 7 can be used without any problems on standard PCs that are over four years old, and it will actually make them faster. The speed of Windows 7 is noticeable when starting and rebooting PCs, and it takes just three seconds for a PC to resume full-speed operation from sleep mode. An interesting new function is BitLocker, which can encrypt and protect files on USB drives. There are also many more search functions, and Direct Access provides people with easy access to files and applications on the central server when they are not at the office,” he added.

On the whole, the new system is considered to be extremely stable, secure and fast. The choice is yours!
