STORAGE VIRTUALISATION

Storage virtualisation means that various physical storage entities are combined into a single logical storage pool. The storage in this logical pool is subsequently divided up into sections and presented to the server systems. Put briefly, a logical structure is imposed on the storage thus creating a very flexible storage environment.
Storage virtualisation is used to create storage islands, distributed across the IT infrastructure and combined into one single entity. The management of such an environment is far easier than managing a traditional environment. This simplicity translates into a lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) and increased productivity and availability.
